A Warm Welcome to New Undergraduate Students: Highlights from the Faculty Induction Talk 2025

The Faculty Induction Talk 2025, held on August 13, was a heartfelt event dedicated to warmly welcoming our new undergraduate students and foster a vibrant sense of community within our Social Sciences family. This occasion offers invaluable insights from a student perspective, empowering newcomers with the confidence and knowledge needed to navigate their university journey successfully.
The event kicked off with a lively Connection Corner accompanied by light refreshment, creating an engaging and welcoming tone. Professor Kwan Nok Chan, Acting Dean of Social Sciences, delivered a welcome address to all new students, followed by a casual chat with two senior students to introduced the Faculty and academic resources.

Mr Laurence Tang, Director of Campus Life at the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), shared an overview of the extensive student support services, highlighting resources available to assist students throughout their university life.

A highlight of the event was the student sharing session, featuring five senior students who candidly discussed their experiences – from making friends and building relationships to balancing university life, course registration, academic advising, and seeking help for mental health challenges. Their stories offered practical tips and reassurance to new students embarking on their academic journey.

Participants also received a comprehensive “FOSS Welcome Pack” – a one-stop portal on essential information and services to support their university experience. The event concluded with an engaging mass activity designed to encourage new students to connect, collaborate, and build friendships, helping them feel more at home in the Faculty community.

The Induction Talk not only aims to inform but also to inspire a sense of belonging among new students, ensuring they start their university life with confidence, support, and a network of peers. We look forward to welcoming our new undergraduate students and supporting them every step of the way as they begin this exciting new chapter!
