MSocSc(Pop&PA) Population Insight Series: Exploring Critical Population Challenges

The Population Insight Series, organised by the MSocSc(Pop&PA) Programme Office, was launched in September 2025 to spotlight urgent population-related concerns in Hong Kong and beyond. Throughout the semester, distinguished practitioners delivered lectures on key themes: Ageing Futures, Talent & Technology, and Inclusion & Advocacy.

Theme 1: Ageing Futures: Adapting Societies
Explore how Hong Kong and the world are responding to changing demographics.

Mr. Dicky Chow, Head of Healthcare & Social Innovation from Our Hong Kong Foundation, analysed the local implications of an ageing population and strategies for community action, while Ms. Dorothy Wong, Project Director of Innovation & Technology for Ageing from The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, showcased innovations in gerontechnology that are redefining elder care and the social experience for older adults.

Theme 2: Talent & Technology: Shaping Tomorrow
Discover dynamic forces that drive talent cultivation and technological advancement.

Mr. Ray Poon, Research Director of PoD Research Institute, unpacked global fertility trends and policy innovations that affect population sustainability. Mr. Victor Kwok, Deputy Research Director from Our Hong Kong Foundation, emphasised education and lifelong learning as cornerstones for competitive talent development. Mr. Chuck Fung, General Manager from the Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Division at the Hong Kong Productivity Council, shared how AI is powering smart cities and advocated for ethical tech governance.

Theme 3: Inclusion & Advocacy: Building Bridges
Celebrate collaboration for a more equitable and inclusive society.

Ms. Qubie Tang, Officer (Family & Community) from The Hong Kong Council of Social Service discussed challenges faced by ethnic minorities and highlighted partnerships among NGOs, government, and communities that are making progress towards social inclusion and advocacy.

As part of our ongoing commitment, the MSocSc(Pop&PA) Programme Office thanks all guest speakers for broadening our students’ understanding of population dynamics and policy solutions. We look forward to strengthening the engagement between students and leading practitioners, both locally and globally, through future events and collaborative inquiry.
