Distinguished Alumni Story- Professor Diana Khor has become first foreign president of Hosei University
In a groundbreaking announcement, Professor Diana Khor, an esteemed alumna has made history by becoming the first foreign president of Hosei University. The term of her presidency is set to commence on March 31, 2025, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career.
Professor Khor’s journey to this prestigious position is a testament to her unwavering dedication and exceptional abilities. Reflecting on her time at HKU, she fondly recalls her initial foray into the Faculty of Social Sciences, where she discovered her passion for Sociology. This pivotal moment set the stage for a remarkable academic trajectory that would ultimately lead her to the pinnacle of academic leadership.
Professor Diana Khor:
I remember my HKU days with fondness. I entered the Faculty of Social Sciences but thought I’d major in Management. However, I was immediately converted after my very first encounter with Sociology. At HKU, I also valued the time outside of class thinking, theorizing, and discussing with my friends from diverse departments. I am very appreciative of the late Dr. Wong Siu-Lun, who was a most reliable and supportive advisor when I pursued my M.Phil. and applied to Ph.D. programs overseas. I am also immensely proud that Hazuki Kaneko, a student I taught at Hosei University, went on to pursue graduate studies at HKU and obtained his Ph.D. in Sociology last year. In the past few years as the Vice President in charge of globalization and the promotion of diversity at Hosei University, I realized again the value of my background in Sociology.
With her upcoming presidency at Hosei University, Professor Diana Khor is poised to lead with vision, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. Her groundbreaking appointment not only underscores her individual achievements but also signifies a new era of international collaboration and academic innovation at one of Japan’s premier institutions of higher learning.
