The HKU Social Venture Lab is excited to invite experienced social innovators like you to become mentors for our students.

Why mentor?
  • Support students in developing scalable, innovative, and sustainable solutions.
  • Contribute to building a vibrant community of social changemakers.
  • Share your expertise and experience to shape impactful ventures.
Flexible Mentoring Formats:
  • One-on-One Mentoring: Provide personalised guidance to student teams.
  • Panel Mentoring: Participate in group sessions, offering diverse perspectives and insights with other mentors.
  • Hybrid Mentoring: Engage in both formats to offer comprehensive support and maximise your impact.
How It Works:

You will be paired with a student team working on a project related to your area of expertise. Your role is to provide guidance, share your insights, and offer general advice to help them develop their ideas as they embark on their social entrepreneurship journey.

For Mentees

  1. Gaining targeted expertise to avoid costly pitfalls.
  2. Validating your impact strategy effectively.
  3. Building a scalable and sustainable venture.
  4. Expanding your social and professional networks, connecting with mentors and industry peers to grow your venture.
  5. Receiving guidance on where and how to find investors and funding opportunities to finance your growth.

 

Mentorship Journey

Application
  • Student teams with at least one core team member from the Faculty of Social Sciences has a project that is at one of the following stages:
    • Early development stage— e.g. a defined solution in prototype development or testing, with small pilots involving a few users
    • Operational stage— e.g. a product, programme, or service already running with regular users or beneficiaries
Please note: concept-only, and pre-idea projects are not eligible.
Matching
  • Mentor-team matching is based on expertise and specific needs of each student innovation project.
Formats
  • Structure: Flexible support through one-on-one sessions, panel mentoring, or a combination of both, ensuring well-rounded and integrated guidance
  • Duration: Each mentorship cycle lasts for one year
  • Frequency: Monthly meetings throughout the cycle, with additional meetings scheduled as needed to support the team
  • Session Length: Each session will last 60 minutes
  • Mode: Sessions can be conducted in person or online
