We are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the “Beijing-Hong Kong Joint Research Hub on Population and Development” (the “Joint Hub”) on June 7, 2025 at the Conference on Population and Health for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (translated). This landmark collaboration between the Faculty of Social Sciences and the China Population and Development Research Center (CPDRC) aims to create synergy in addressing pressing national strategic priorities while laying a strong foundation for tackling global population development challenges. In her remarks, our Dean, Professor Ming Wen, highlighted that this collaboration marks the beginning of a transformative era of institutionalised, cross-regional academic exchange, paving the way for deeper and more impactful research.
Following the signing of the MoU, our faculty members, Professor Paul Yip, Associate Dean (Knowledge Exchange and Development), and Professor Chenhong Peng, Assistant Professor of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, shared valuable insights during their presentations, focusing on the sustainability, opportunities, and challenges facing Hong Kong’s population, as well as research on poverty alleviation policies in Hong Kong.
Building on a people-centric public health system aligned with national priorities, the Joint Hub envisions robust research collaboration dedicated to advancing well-being and sustainable development across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
