Sad loss: Emeritus Professor of Sociology Wong Siu-lun
It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our esteemed Emeritus Professor, Wong Siu-lun (黃紹倫), on December 2, 2024.
Professor Wong obtained his BSocSc degree from HKU in 1971. After his MPhil (CUHK) and DPhil (Oxford), he returned to HKU to pursue an academic career. He was appointed as Professor and served as the Head of the Department of Sociology (1988 – 1994) before taking up other senior positions in the university. As part of the first generation of Hong Kong sociologists, Professor Wong was a cherished member of our academic community and best known for his pioneering contributions to the field of entrepreneurship, business networks, migration, social indicators and the development of sociology in China. He will be sorely missed by all his former colleagues and students from around the world.
