S.C. Fan Memorial Lecture 2024 “How Population Growth Promotes Innovation” was successfully held on Monday December 3, 2024 at the Rayson Huang Theatre, HKU. We are honored to welcome Dr. James Liang, Co-founder and Chairman of Trip.com Group, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the intersection of population dynamics and innovation. The lecture also explored the implications of the ‘Low Fertility Era’ on innovation, emphasizing the need for adaptive strategies in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Professor Xiang Zhang, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong, in his welcoming remarks, said, “This topic is in fact very much related to us educators… How should we prepare our young generations to face an ageing population? How to tackle a shifting demand for innovative solutions? How would a shrinking workface affect innovation? These are issues I am interested to know too.”
The lecture brings over 200 participants from a diverse audience including leaders, academic experts, alumni, staff and students to foster knowledge exchange and pushing intellectual boundaries.
