The Faculty of Social Sciences held its inaugural reunion on December 18, 2024, at a cozy and Christmas-themed cafe and bar at Central Pier 7. The event was a spectacular success. Faculty members including Professor Paul Yip, Professor Patrick Adler, Professor Cecilia Cheng, Dr Johnson Cheung, Ms. Jennifer Deayton, Professor Jian Gao, Professor Ben Gerlofs, and Professor Min Yue, from various departments also participated, engaging warmly with alumni across generations.
The event commenced with a welcoming speech from Professor Paul Yip [Associate Dean (Knowledge Exchange and Development)], who expressed his delight in seeing social science alumni reconnect with the faculty. He warmly acknowledged the diverse group of attendees, ranging from graduates from 50 years ago or more, as well as recent Class of 2024. During his address, Professor Yip highlighted the faculty’s ongoing commitment to alumni engagement, including the upcoming Mentorship Programme, which pairs alumni with students to strengthen the bonds within the social sciences community and broaden students’ horizons.
The evening concluded with a ceremonial toast led by Professor Yip, wishing everyone good health and a Merry Christmas on behalf of the faculty.
Attendees expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Faculty of Social Sciences for organizing such a memorable and successful event. Alumni shared their enthusiasm for future activities and looked forward to continued opportunities to connect and engage with the faculty and their peers.
This reunion marked a significant milestone in fostering a strong and vibrant alumni community of the HKU Faculty of Social Sciences.
