Jointly offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Yuanpei College of the Peking University (PKU), this Dual Degree programme*aims to nurture critical thinkers and future leaders equipped to navigate the complexities of a globalized world. Students admitted to this Dual Degree programme will spend the first two years at PKU and the following two years at HKU, with an optional fifth year at PKU for those interested in pursuing MPhil/PhD studies in Mainland China.

- Mutual credit recognition to fulfil graduation requirements at both institutions
- Total Study Load: 318 HKU credits
- Credit Distribution:
– 150 HKU credits from HKU
– 84 PKU credits from PKU (equivalent to 168 HKU credits) - Medium of Instruction:
– PKU: Mix of Chinese and English
– HKU: English (except for Chinese language courses)

- Students will pay the HKU tuition fee for the third and fourth years of studies at HKU (i.e. HK$49,500 for local students and HK$198,000 for non-local students for the academic year 2027-28 (provisional); fees for subsequent academic years are subject to review and adjustment).
- Outstanding students may be awarded entrance scholarships for studies at HKU
- To be eligible for admission into this Dual Degree programme, applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria:
- Hold a valid Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents 港澳居民來往內地通行證 (Home Return Permit 回鄉證) and are not a student from Macau; and
- Complete high school education in Hong Kong.
- Mainland students with international qualifications (IB, GCE A-level etc.) obtained from China are NOT eligible for this dual degree programme.
- Submit an online application with supporting documents
- JUPAS candidates should also submit a JUPAS application with the HKU Bachelor of Social Sciences (JUPAS Code JS6717) listed as one of their Band A choices

Projects that align closely with the Faculty’s Strategic Research Themes and that demonstrate potential for significant academic impact are prioritised.
Your application should give information about your research expertise and professional achievements, and details of the proposed visit and planned scholarly activities, accompanied by your CV and a written consent from the Faculty member who act as your Faculty Associate.
Fellows are expected to engage in collaborative research projects with their Faculty Associate and/or other Faculty members that lead to at least one co-authored publication within one year upon completion of the fellowship. They are required to submit a completion report to the Faculty Office within 3 months after the completion of the visit. Publication information should be shared with the Faculty Office in a timely manner.
Actively participate in all arranged activities, network with faculty and students, and seek out additional opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
While you would be titled as a “Global South Fellow” within the Faculty, you would be offered a visiting professorship appointment at a grade equivalent to your current position in your own institution.
Yes, you will need an appropriate visa to stay and work in Hong Kong. The Faculty Office will provide guidance in the visa application.
While you can bring family members, the fellowship’s remuneration package only covers your expenses. Additional costs need to be covered out of your own pocket. Your family members may also be required to apply for a visa/entry permit as per the immigration requirements set out by the Immigration Department. Please refer to their website for further details.
The per-diem allowances are typically disbursed on a monthly basis, directly to the fellow’s bank account via telegraphic transfer (TT).

The serviced apartment may also charge a deposit. You should always read the terms and conditions thoroughly before you rent so and refer to the serviced apartments’ websites for the latest offers.
Other options may include short-stay packages with hotels. While the per-diem allowance includes accommodation costs and fellows are expected to make their own arrangements, you may reach out to the host Department/Centre/Hub for advice regarding locations, transportation, and so on, to facilitate your preparation for the visit.
Yes, fellows will have access to university facilities, including IT services, libraries and computer labs, as needed for their projects. Additionally, they will be offered with a shared office space as arranged by the Faculty or the host Department/Centre/Hub.
