Strategic Research Themes

Strategic Research Themes

In an innovative stride towards enhancing academic excellence, research impact and interdepartmental collaborations, the Faculty introduces three Strategic Research Themes (SRTs), which are crafted to strengthen our research directions. Each theme is spearheaded by dedicated co-leaders who drive the development of their respective areas through engaging research projects and collaborative activities. These SRTs are not only research focal points but also platforms for ongoing dialogue, regular review, and potential interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond our Faculty.

Seek to uncover how demographic shifts and social policies impact individual and community health and behaviour, targeting to drive advancements in health practices and policy-making for improved population well-being

Focus on creating sustainable and resilient urban spaces, aiming to explore innovative urban planning and governance solutions to address the complexities of growing cities and environmental sustainability

Examine the intersection of cultural identity, equitable practices, and community engagement, striving to foster inclusive development and enhanced social cohesion within diverse communities

Explore Collaboration Opportunities

We are eager to extend our research beyond our Faculty and the University. Scholars from other faculties, institutions and external organisations can connect with our SRT co-leaders to discuss potential collaborative opportunities if you find your interests align with our research themes. Join us in this exciting venture as we explore new possibilities and expand the horizons of our research impact.

Join Forces With the SRT Co-Leaders

Faculty members interested in contributing your expertise and insights to the development of our research themes can nominate yourself as a member of the selected theme(s).  As a member, you will have the opportunity to provide input into the implementation of and actively engage with the themes, fostering potential collaborations on innovative projects and initiatives.  Please email the Faculty Office (fossres@hku.hk) to indicate your interest.
