Audio- and video-recordings provide new and exciting opportunities for doing social science research, which facilitate collecting, analysing and presenting data. In this seminar, Dr Greiffenhagen will present the methodological origins of video analysis in ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, in particular, how recordings can be used as a way to study how participants themselves analyse each other’s conduct. Examples from different research projects will also be discussed, such as video calls, mobile payments and facial recognition technologies.
