Doris Leung<\/strong>, a distinguished alumna of the Master of Journalism (MJ)<\/strong> programme at the University of Hong Kong\u2019s (HKU) Faculty of Social Sciences<\/strong>, transitioned from a career as a broadcast journalist to become a successful social entrepreneur. Inspired by caring for her mother, who faced mobility challenges, Doris founded Diamond Cab<\/strong> in 2010\u2014a pioneering enterprise offering 24\/7 barrier-free taxi services for wheelchair users. With over 200,000 safe, legal trips completed, the service has revolutionized accessibility in Hong Kong, empowering users and caregivers with dignity and independence.<\/p>\n Her studies at HKU\u2019s MJ programme equipped her with essential communication and media skills, crucial for amplifying her advocacy. Coupled with training in social economics\u2014which deepened her empathy for marginalized communities, Doris crafted a holistic approach to social change. This blend of skills became the backbone of Diamond Cab\u2019s mission to reshape Hong Kong\u2019s ageing care culture, proving that empathy and innovation can drive systemic change.<\/p>\n Beyond cabs, Doris launched Diamond Leisure in 2014, partnering with elderly homes to organize weekly outings for isolated seniors\u2014a lifeline during the pandemic. In 2016, she established the Diamond Cab Foundation to expand charitable services, followed by Diamond Tech in 2023, which leverages technology to address ageing society needs. Her work has gained global recognition, earning her honours such as the Young Social Entrepreneur Award, Cartier Women\u2019s Initiative Award, Smart Ageing Leaders Award \u2013 Mobility, and the U.S. Government\u2019s IVLP Gold Star Initiative.<\/p>\n Starting from April 2025, Doris has moved to the UK and started up the first overseas franchise of Diamond Cab in Greater Manchester. She planned to launch the wheelchair accessible service with Driving with Empathy training by the end of 2025 after securing investment funding.<\/p>\n Today, Doris stands as a beacon of social entrepreneurship, blending the academic rigor of HKU\u2019s Faculty of Social Sciences with grassroots compassion. Her enterprises not only address mobility barriers but also foster a society where inclusivity and dignity are non-negotiable\u2014a legacy rooted in education, empathy, and relentless advocacy.
