Industry Sharing in March –<\/span> UNHCR, Philanthropy and <\/span>Human Resources & Commercial Real Estate Services<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In March 2025, three successful industry sharing sessions were conducted, featuring six young alumni from prestigious organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, and CBRE Hong Kong. As alumni of the Faculty of Social Sciences, these professionals generously shared their insights and advice, aimed to equip students with the necessary mindset and skills tailored for their respective industries and fields. The alumni speakers encouraged students to follow their passion when searching for a career path.<\/p>\n

Ms. Carrie Pau – Lead of Communications (Private Sector Partnerships) at UNHCR<\/strong>, guided students through a visit to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Hong Kong. Carrie and her colleague provided an overview of the UNHCR’s functions and its role as an international NGO in the region. Carrie illustrated the organization’s objectives and its impactful work through case studies.<\/p>\n

Ms. Carmen Pun – Manager (Charities) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club<\/strong>, shed light on various roles within the philanthropy sector, from social work in an NGO to managing projects at the Jockey Club, emphasizing the importance of community engagement. Ms. Quiteria Leung – Manager (Mainland Affairs \u2013 Policy & Stakeholder Engagement) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club<\/strong>, detailed her experience in government and stakeholder engagement, stressing the need for management and communication skills.<\/p>\n

Mr. Benny Cheung – Senior Director<\/strong>, Mr. Ryan Mak – Associate Director<\/strong>, and Mr. Pakson Lau – Associate Director of Talent Learning & Development at CBRE Hong Kong<\/strong>, hosted a tour of their office, which is designed to reflect the company\u2019s commitment to sustainability and people development. They shared their personal career trajectories since graduation, provided advice on entering the fields of commercial real estates, talent management and learning & development respectively.<\/p>\n

Industry Sharing in April – Government and Public Relations & Communications<\/em>
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Two insightful industry sharing sessions were organized in the mid of April 2025. Four distinguished alumni currently employed at the HKSAR Government, EY Greater China and MSCI Inc. generously imparted their career experiences gained from the government, public relations and communications sectors.<\/p>\n

Mr. Dominic Ho<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Assistant Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development \/ Assistant Secretary for Health<\/strong> at <\/strong>HKSAR Government<\/strong>, shared his diverse experiences working across various governmental roles and highlighted the wide-ranging responsibilities of Administrative Officers. One key secret to success is to maintain curiosity and passion for societal issues. Ms. Rita Tse<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Executive Officer, Labour and Welfare Bureau at HKSAR Government<\/strong>, reminded students the importance of having strong interpersonal and communication skills. Both speakers offered valuable tips and guidance for students navigating the application process of Civil Service jobs.<\/p>\n

Ms. Hilda Poon<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Editorial and Creative Director of EY Greater China<\/strong>, underscored the essential skills such as writing and communication, advocating for a structured approach infused with empathy and passion.\u00a0 Ms. Tina Tan<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Head of APAC Public Relations of MSCI Inc.<\/strong>, highlighted the unique differences across various roles within the sector. She encouraged students to pursue their passions and explore diverse opportunities while in their youth. They both dispelled the misconception about the public relations and communications sectors, emphasizing the importance of aligning with personal values and career goals in choosing a work environment, selecting an employer that values collaboration, professional growth and workplace inclusion over brand name recognition.<\/p>\n

The Faculty expresses gratitude for the dedicated efforts of alumni who provided valuable guidance and insights to our students during February, March, and April 2025.
