After his MPhil (CUHK) and DPhil (Oxford), he returned to HKU to pursue an academic career. He was appointed as Professor and served as the Head of the Department of Sociology (1988 \u2013 1994) before taking up other senior positions in the university. As part of the first generation of Hong Kong sociologists, Professor Wong was a cherished member of our academic community and best known for his pioneering contributions to the field of entrepreneurship, business networks, migration, social indicators and the development of sociology in China.
